PARA-KARATE

Para-Karate is a discipline within Karate designed for athletes with disabilities. It specifically adapts the "kata" modality for wheelchair users, visually impaired athletes, and athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The discipline was first introduced to the public in 2012 as a demonstration event at the World Championships in Paris. This was followed by the official Para-Karate World Championships in Bremen, Germany (2014), and Linz, Austria (2016). Since then, participation has steadily increased, and Para-Karate is now an integral part of both World and Continental Championships.

In 2015, the World Karate Federation was officially recognised as an International Federation (IF) by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), marking a significant milestone in its efforts to develop and promote Para-Karate.
