The 2024 AKF Senior Championships are set to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 19 to 22, bringing together the best karate athletes from across Asia. This prestigious event is not only a showcase of top-tier talent but also a crucial qualifier for the upcoming Karate World Cup in Pamplona, Spain, in November.
China continue to solidify its status as a key host for major karate events. Following the successful Asian Games held in Hangzhou last year and the highly acclaimed Karate 1-Premier League in Shanghai in 2019, China are once again ready to welcome the continent's finest karatekas.
The Sports Centre Gymnasium in the Linping District will be the venue for this year's championship, promising a thrilling atmosphere for both competitors and fans. In addition to the traditional karate disciplines, the 2024 AKF Senior Championships will also feature para-karate events, highlighting the inclusivity and diversity of the sport.
Reflecting on last year's edition in Malaysia, Kazakhstan emerged as the dominant force, topping the medal table with 11 medals, including three golds. Japan and Iran followed closely with 8 and 12 medals, respectively.
As the championship approaches, anticipation is building for what promises to be an unforgettable event. With qualification for the Karate World Cup on the line, the best karate athletes in Asia are ready to deliver their finest performances in Hangzhou.
