Jamaican Women Empowered at Guardian Girls Karate Seminar in Kingston

Organised by the Jamaican Karate Federation with the support of the World Karate Federation (WKF), the activity saw over 50 women participants learn ways to face situations of gender-based violence using Karate.

The seminar was held at the Seido Karate headquarters at the Girl Guides Association in Kingston and focused on empowering women with practical skills to effectively overcome situations where their well-being is put at risk by gender-based violence.  

The activity was led by instructor Danielle Chang. A WKF-certified instructor after attending the Instructors Course in Madrid, Spain, in December, Chang shared her expertise with enthusiasm and dedication, as her training session emphasised the importance of confidence, awareness, and basic karate techniques that can be employed in real-life scenarios.

The Guardian Girls WKF Global Karate Project is a worldwide social initiative designed to promote gender equality and empower women and girls. Created by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Koyamada International Foundation (KIF), and the World Karate Federation (WKF), this initiative aims to defend women from all forms of gender-based violence through karate training.

The seminar in Kingston marks a significant step in the global effort to empower women through Karate. By emphasising the importance of women’s self-defence and empowerment, the Guardian Girls Karate Seminar in Kingston continues spreading the successful initiative aimed at combating gender-based violence through Karate training.
