Abdel Ali Jina, Morocco’s most promising karateka, made history by winning the first medal for the host country at the 2024 Karate 1 Premier League in Casablanca. Jina secured the bronze medal, adding another accolade to his impressive career.
Jina, born in Mrirt in 2002, began his karate journey in 2012. Since then, he has consistently risen through the ranks. He was the 2023 continental champion and is currently the continental bronze medallist. His international achievements include a bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships and three medals at Karate 1 Premier League events, including the recent bronze in Casablanca.
In the Casablanca event, Jina demonstrated his skill and determination by topping the preliminary pool. He achieved victories over Georgios Karalis of Greece (6-2), Mert Halici of Turkiye (6-6 by tie-breaking criteria), and Rayyan Meziane of France (4-1). Despite losing to Hiromu Hashimoto of Japan (3-1) in the quarterfinals, Jina advanced to the bronze medal match as Hashimoto reached the finals. Jina clinched the bronze by defeating Egypt’s Amr Alaa Aboukora 6-5.
Jina’s success in Casablanca is a testament to his hard work and dedication and the progress of Moroccan karate. Morocco’s ample Karate community celebrated his victory at home at the event in Casablanca. Now, Morocco eagerly anticipates more victories and medals from Jina in the years to come.
