Karate to show its values at Pacific Games

Karate is taking the spotlight at the Sol2023 Pacific Games being held in the Solomon Island. Scheduled for November 23 to 24, the Karate competition will be an opportunity to showcase the values of the sport at the multidiscipline event.

Held every four years, the Pacific Games are the most important multi-sport event in Oceania. The 2023 edition takes place in Honiara (Solomon Islands) from November 19 to December 2, with the Karate competition slated for November 23 and 24. No less than 24 disciplines are included in the 2023 edition.

After being absent from the last edition in Samoa, Karate makes its return to the Pacific Games, thus completing its presence in all the Continental Games of the Olympic cycle. Representatives from five countries (Fiji, Nauru, New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands, and Tahiti) will take part in the 18 categories at stake.

Returning 2015 gold medallists Adi Kidia of Fiji and Angelique Mondoloni of New Caledonia, as well as New Caledonia’s Mathieu Annonier, and former World Championships silver medallist Vu Duc Minh Dack, will be among the athletes to watch.

Karatekas from New Caledonia and Fiji dominated the competition in Karate’s last appearance at the event in 2015 in Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea).
