Japan, Turkiye and Italy prevail in Team Kata categories on Day 3 of #KarateBudapest2023

World Championships Senior
Team Kata categories took the stage of the 2023 World Senior Championships on Day 3 of action from Budapest (Hungary). Japan continued dominating the divisions after claiming the two spots in the finals. The defending champions of Japan will clash for the title against Italy and Turkiye.
The defending champions of Japan showed strength in Male Kata as the current title holders dominated the eliminations today. The Japanese side topped the final pool with a score of 42.9 with “Sochin” kata.
Aiming to stop Japan’s dominance of the category, Turkiye prevailed on the other side of the pool and qualified for their first World Championships final. The Turkish side topped the pool with a score of 41.8 with “Kanku Sho” kata.
Japan have won the crown of the category since 2016 thus prevailing in Male Team Kata in the last three editions of the event.
The bronze medals bouts are as follows:
Spain – Italy
France – Kuwait
JAPAN VS ITALY IN FEMALE TEAM KATA
The competition of Female Team Kata also had Japan as the main favourite taking the spot in the finals. The current titleholders hope to extend their domination of the category and made it to the final following a convincing performance in the eliminations. The score of the Japanese side in the final pool was 43.3 with “Gojushiho Sho”.
Italy are hoping to win the title for the first time and dominated their pool with a score of 42.9 with “Anan Dai” kata.
The Japanese side has claimed the crown since 2018 and seven times in the last ten editions. Italy meanwhile reached the final for the last time in 2012 when they lost to Japan.
The bronze medal bouts are as follows:
Spain – Morocco
Turkiye – Egypt
