WKF President Antonio Espinós: Karate Will be one of the highlights of the 2023 World Combat Games

The Karate competition of the World Combat Games is about to start. The preparation meetings ahead of the competition kicked off the event as Karate fans get ready for the anticipated multi-sport event to take place in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
“I am convinced that Karate will be one of the highlights of the World Combat Games, as it was on the two previous occasions that our sport was featured in this memorable multi-sport event,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
“The values of Karate make our sport a remarkable experience in all multi-sport events. Here, in Riyadh, we are ready to showcase our excellence, our popularity and the strength of our sporting spirit,” he added.
Mr Espinós headed the two meetings that finalised the preparations for the event. The gatherings also had WKF General Secretary Toshihisa Nagura, WKF Athletes’ Commission chairman and Executive Committee member Davide Benetello, WKF Executive Committee member Ibrahim Al Gannas, Saudi Karate Federation President Mushrif Bin Ali Alshehri, Competition Technical Director Mohammed Abbas and Technical Director Assistant Bharat Sharma in attendance.
The Referee Briefing set the foundation of the rules and regulation application of the tournament, with over 30 international referees officiating at the event. Meanwhile, the officials and coaches gathered one last time before the event at the General Technical Meeting and Draw to review the final details of the competition.
“My gratitude goes to all of you who make it possible that Karate continues progressing and that our sport, regardless of the challenges, maintains its values and its aim of making a difference in the world,” Mr Espinós added.
The Karate competition of the World Combat Games is scheduled for October 20 and 21.
