The best promising karatekas in the Americas will meet in Santiago (Chile) from August 24 to 27 to clash for the continental crown.
This is all you need to know about the anticipated continental championships.
WHAT
- The 2023 PKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships are the biggest in the Americas for underage categories.
- Held every year, the event gathers the best up-and-coming stars of the sport in the continent.
WHERE
- The event will take place in Santiago (Chile) at the Polideportivo Nunoa sports hall.
- Chile are one of the biggest powerhouse nations of the sport in the continent, and it has hosted many first-class international Karate events over the years, including the Karate 1-Series A event in 2020 and 2019, the PKF Senior Championships in 2018, and the World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in 2019, among many others.
- Santiago will host the biggest multi-sport event in the continent later this year. The Pan-American Games will be held in Santiago from November 3 to 5.
WHEN
- The tournament is scheduled for August 24 to 27.
- Starting on Thursday, August 24, at 09:00 (local time GMT -4), the competition will continue throughout the weekend until Sunday.
- The first day will have the Kata, in all the divisions, and U14 and Cadet categories taking the stage.
- Kata Team categories 14 to 17, and the U21 competition, as well as the opening ceremony, will be held on Friday, August 25.
- Junior categories, Kumite Team U21, and Kata Team U21 will take the stage on Saturday, August 26.
- Finals will be held at the end of each competition day.

WHO
- Nearly 1,000 athletes from 24 countries have registered to participate in the event.
- This tally highly improves the registration number of the last edition of the championships, which was held in 2022 in Mexico. Over 700 karatekas from 22 nations competed in Mexico last year.
- The powerhouse nation of the United States presents the largest delegation in Casablanca with 97 athletes, followed by hosts of Chile with 96 representatives, and Brazil and Canada, both with 89 athletes.
- Mexico topped the medal table of the last edition of the event with 11 gold medals, followed by Brazil and the United States with 8 and 7 gold medals respectively.
HOW
- The competition follows a knockout format.
- The event comprises 50 categories, in all the divisions, from ages 12 to 21.
