New kings and queens of Karate in the Americas to be crowned in Costa Rica

The best Karate athletes in the Americas will meet this week in Costa Rica to clash for the continental title and for a spot in the Pan American Games 2023.
From Wednesday, May 24 to Saturday, May 27, the elite of the sport in the continent will gather at the Polideportivo BN Arena in San Jose to demonstrate the progress of karate in the Americas.
The first day of the competition is devoted to the qualification for the Pan American Games to be held in Santiago (Chile) later this year. The continental crowns will be decided from Thursday to Friday.
Over 140 athletes from 25 nations are registered to compete in the qualifier for Santiago 2023 with competitors registering up to one athlete per category.
The last edition of the continental championships was held last year in Curacao. The United States topped the medal table of the event with seven medals, including four golds. Powerhouse nations of Venezuela and Brazil followed in the medal table with 11 and 12 medals respectively.
Karate Stars Sakura Kokumai, Thomas Scott, and Ariel Torres of the United States, Yorgelis Salazar of Venezuela, and Douglas Brose of Brazil were among the heroes of the event last year.
